This past weekend the Pack and Troop joined together for Scouting for Food. On November 1, we distributed bags all over the neighborhood around Holy Redeemer in College Park. Then, we collected the bags of donated goods. Together, we collected 484 pounds of food to donate. You should have seen the look on the faces of the boys when the final tally was given. I think they didn't realize how important their efforts really were - the numbers add up.
Donations to local food pantries are down this year thanks to the economy mess. The Academy of the Holy Cross participates in McKenna's Wagon - a mobile food pantry. Each week the students donate sandwiches and volunteers ride along to distribute food. You never really appreciate having the resources to feed yourself (and your family) until you look into the faces of the men and women who can't.
